Will the Real “Indie” Please Stand Up?

By jason - up to 2007 (archived) • Jan 31st, 2007 • Category: News for Creatives (archives)

Not since 1993 (i.e. Nirvana on Geffen) have I heard the term “indie” being used as often by big business to gain market share in the guise of helping the little man. Mashable reports that the new union of “indie” (r.e fairly large, but not owned by a conglomerate) labels are gearing up towards forcing YouTube for royalties a kickback (just like the “majors” did in the whole Google deal where suddenly majors had a share in YouTube and reaped millions in the transaction). YouTube was always big business, don’t be fooled, their rampant disregard for copyright is absurd; they are in no way a friend of creative professional, no matter what their PR experts say.
