MTVs Course Correction
By amanda up to 2007 (archives) • Feb 15th, 2007 • Category: News for Creatives (archives)More news is becoming available about who were these 250 employees who were cut. It seems MTV cut from all levels for management as well as cut divisions down, if not altogether halted them. This feels like a purge in order to cut costs more than anything strategic. That said what’s interesting to us is MTVs halting of the “MTV World” channels. From MTVs prepared statement:
“Unfortunately, the premium distribution model for MTV World proved more challenging than we anticipated in this competitive environment. As a result, MTV has decided to shut down its linear MTV World operation. However, we remain steadfast in superserving multicultural youth, and we are continuing to investigate ways to integrate the MTV Desi [Indian American], Chi [Chinese American] and K [Koren American] brands online and on our other screens.”
Translation: Smaller and growing markets are out for now, we need to reel in the big fish.
