A take on “Defining Photography”

“Forget about digital age, Photoshop, etc….. Even in documentary picture, that seems to be more ‘real’ , there are ’selection’ made by the photographer. Who should be shown, and who should not be shown on the photo ? We can never find a ’selection’ that is neutral. Such ‘ selection’ may be made by the photographer, consciously or unconsciously or semi-conciously. It will ‘create’ an interpretation when a viewer sees the photo.
And imagine, when I say ‘The landscape shown in your photo looks more beautiful than what I saw when I got there’, What can it mean ?
Our ‘real’ world is not absolute. Too many factors are contributing to the interpretation of things.
We may think that it was unfair in the past when people were not treating ‘photography’ as an art form. 100 years later, people may think that what we are thinking is also strange.“
