“Last month the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) of New Jersey dedicated their first windfarm site (five, 380-feet tall wind turbines capable of producing 7.5 megawatts). Entry to the event was via a donated canned food item. These were contributed to the local Community Food Bank for distribution to those in need, over the holiday period. Photographer Donna Connor, also added to the kitty by donating proceeds from the poster sales of her images of windfarms. (Wonder if Donna entered our own TH wind farm photographic contest?). Not only did ACUA promote renewable energy, they collected 32,560 pounds (14,800 kg) of non-perishable food items valued at about $54,000 USD. Posters can still purchased for $50 USD at ::PhotoFace

Our winner (in a close race) in the photo contest is Sohier Chistie, a young photographer and web designer from Nova Scotia, Canada. You can view his photography at soygeek.net, (great name!). We were impressed that in February, he volunteered to build shelters in Sri Lanka and blogged about it on his site. We asked Sohier to talk about the picture and what led to him having two of the five final shots, and about his experience in Sri Lanka.”
