Lee Miller, Model Turned War Photographer, Feted in London Show

“Lee Miller told a reporter in 1932, “I would rather take a picture than be one.”
That’s the nub of her career, which moved from model to surrealist photographer and war reporter, and the central ambiguity in a new show at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum.
This exhibition is both about Miller as a personality and beauty and about her work as a photographer. As you walk out, past a Picasso portrait of Miller — not one of Pablo’s best, but still quite an accolade — you are not sure which of these roles is most significant.”
