By Ashoke Nag of The Indian Times:

“KOLKATA: The market for fine art photography is fast catching up in India. If there were just 3-4 exhibits yearly of this genre around two years back, the numbers have grown to 4-5 such shows monthly in the major hubs now. Well, this action is largely centred in Delhi and Mumbai. Prices of fine art photos have also jumped anywhere between 200% and 300% in the past two years.

“There are two major reasons for the growth. With prices of paintings having spiralled over the past 2-3 years, art buyers are also looking for an alternative avenue for parking their funds. But, the rise in prices of paintings is not the only factor triggering the fancy for photographs.”
