“For photographer Danielle Dean Palmer, there is a feeling and a mood to be captured in each photograph she takes. And living in the beautiful environment of the San Juan Islands gives her plenty to work with.
Danielle was introduced to photography at an early age. It was her father who taught her the magic of an SLR camera. And that was all she needed to rev up her artistic side. “I was always artistic — since I was young,” said Danielle. “I really liked the mechanics of the camera and taking pictures.”
In high school Danielle experimented with documentary style photography, as she worked for the school paper. But the best part was that she had unlimited access to the darkroom. She used to hurry through her projects for the paper so she could work on her own pieces. With her artistic side fully awake and the camera as her tool, Danielle began experimenting with her photography.
She chose to continue her education at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio where she majored in photography. Danielle took classes in architectural photography, fine art photography, and painting among many others. “School was great in the way that I learned a lot of techniques,” she said. “I tried a bit of everything.”
The experimenting paid off, as Danielle found that the fine art side of photography was her favorite.”
