SUV a Fertility Symbol?
By Jason Moriber • Dec 20th, 2007 • Category: Loose EndsI noticed this connection the other day when picking up my daughter from her school; all these tiny children piling into over sized vehicles. The SUV, the provider, protector, with ample room and the strength to haul. With rounded edges, simultaneously both cute and serious, it expects reverence, it eats up the road and can withstand the elements; protecting its children.
Both the SUV and the Venus of Willendorf have the grill-like head-dress, with rounded middles, and soft curves lightly touching the road, they both seem to be weightless while having great presence. The more I look at SUVs the more I see the Venus. In our age where skinny and skinnier, slim and petite cover the pages of our magazines is our lust for the SUV a balance of power? A Jungian reminder, a costume of sorts? That while we strive to lose pounds we wear this extreme amour that makes us look 100x bigger than we really are?
