“NEW YORK (AP) — More than 40 photographs owned by the descendants of Edward Weston will go on the auction block in April, where they are expected to fetch up to $1.4 million.
Weston, considered one of the most influential American photographers of the last century, is known for his images of natural forms, landscapes and nudes.
One of his prints of a shell sold for $1.1 million at Sotheby’s in October, setting a record for the artist.
It was one of the few photographs to break the $1 million mark at auction, reflecting the growing interest in collecting photography, Sotheby’s said.
The collection of Weston’s photographs was owned by his only sibling, Mary Weston Seaman; several are inscribed by the artist.
After her death, the collection passed to her descendants and was the subject of two major exhibitions at The Dayton Art Institute in Ohio, where it has until recently been on long-term loan.”
