Photographing Asha required using careful positioning, highlights and fill. Asha had to stand at the edge of a studio window. The south-facing windows allowed beautiful, natural light in, which created a giant soft box. Notice the specular highlights on her bustier and lips. The highlights came from a second window on Asha’s right, closer to me. I used a 10-by-8 white scrim, and hung it to the model’s left. This reflected the light from the second window back into the shadows, which raised the contrast to 1:4. By keeping the light source simple while capturing its diffused quality, I designed this soft and lovely image.
