Out of the Shadows, a Camelot of Italian Knights and Daring Deeds
By Megan • Mar 13th, 2008 • Category: News for Creatives (archives)Elisabetta Povoledo reports for The New York Times:
“BATTAGLIA TERME, Italy — In his heyday the 16th-century painter Giovanni Battista Zelotti was so well regarded that he was handpicked by Titian to work in the Ducal Palace in Venice alongside Paolo Veronese.
But the cracks of history can be brutal, randomly consigning artists to posthumous indifference. If one uses Wikipedia as an unofficial measure of Zelotti’s standing today, it’s enough to note that Veronese’s entry gets its own table of contents while Zelotti is dismissed in a couple of short paragraphs. “Janson’s History of Art” omits Zelotti altogether.”
