Flex-Fuel Vehicles as a business survival guide
By Jason Moriber • Mar 18th, 2008 • Category: Loose EndsThis morning on the NPR show Marketplace Gal Luft, a flex-fuel advocate, discussed the US’s dependence on an unstable fuel supply (oil) and the great deal of domestic resources we can utilize to create alternative fuels (alcohol based for one), for our automobiles. He notes that for a very small cost of $100/car produced we can enable that car to be flex-fuel, being able to run on both petroleum-based fuel or another fuel type. Good stuff.
All of our businesses should be flex-fuel. We should be seeking innovative, cost-effective ways to keep our businesses thriving on revenues from multiple channels. For what might be a low-cost tweak, we can market our businesses to new arenas without changing our whole businesses. Diversification has always been a stand-by when your core market weakens, but this is a little different. The flex-fuel for business philosophy’s mantra is akin to saying “there is always a new market for what we do, we just have to tweak our models a little to serve it.” This allows business to keep flowing without having to re-invent their wheels, and builds a steady keel to weather the storms.
