Indy Land Bank to fight urban blight
By Jason Moriber • Jul 9th, 2008 • Category: IndianaCity is Phenomenal, NeighborhoodsThere is an unfortunate abundance of empty houses here in Indy, most in working class neighborhoods where times are now tougher. Most of these houses are simple wood-frames, built on regular lots, and salt and pepper through blocks where most folks are seeking to improve their surroundings. The city has thrown their hat into the ring through a plan to buy these abandoned homes and to resell them to serious individuals who seek to renovate them as owner-occupied housing.
The price-points appear ridiculously low to any middle-calls eye, but this is probably the true worth of these properties at this time. Five or ten years from now, who knows. Will it be like NYC where everything went nuts in a ten year period, no. But for professionals here in Indy, who have an eye on the future with the foresight and elbow grease to turn lead into gold, this is a truly amazing opportunity to be part of the solution.
