Best outdoor concert at a fortress: Radiohead at the Verizon fortress

There were probably many great shows this summer, but the Radiohead show was pretty phenomenal. Any band that makes me wish I was in the band takes all the cake in the bakery. Playing at sunset added to the atmospheric beauti-drama of Radiohead’s songs. The effervescent joy of the bass player set the tone as seen on the LED energy-saving cinematic backdrop portraits of the band, a cinematic silent film with a live orchestral track.

I’ve always wanted Ed O’Brien’s (guitarist) gig, making the harmonies, filling in the atmospheres, playing it cool. Seeing this band lays it plain just what cool is, just what good is, just what a band is. This vibe spread itself across the crowd, who mostly danced/shimmied their way through the mixed set of new and older songs without any craziness, fights, or undue interruptions. People brought themselves to the show and let the music wash over them.

What an amazing evening, even the traffic moved smoothly, even if slowly, from the field, down the streets, sending the viewers back to the places and states they came from.

The band was tight, played well, and applauded the crowd in return for our applause, classy, modest, brilliant…phenomenal, even for seeing a show in a fortress in the middle of a field/office park.
