Q: Why aren’t more agencies, PR firms, social media people/agencies practicing what they preach?

Q: Why aren’t more agencies, PR firms, social media people/agencies practicing what they preach?
A: Social Media takes a lot time and consistency. Here are some identifiers I’ve witnessed:
- The Potter: “The potter eats off the broken plates that he can’t sell.” Agencies/PR firms might be too busy to working on client projects to put the same type of emphasis on this marketing path. Still they know people need plates to eat from, so they make more plates.
- The Apex: “My referral business is strong, I’m satisfied with my sales flow.” A company might be happy with the equilibrium between sales efforts and client acquisition. They might already be at an “apex” in their model where they don’t see the need for social media BUT do see it as valuable for their clients who have yet reached their own apex.
- The Hunger: “This is hot, we need to do this.” Hungry businesses will shift gears and add products to match the behavior of their market, whether or not they themselves use the product. If they have the smarts + moxie they can figure it out on the fly, and in some cases, prosper.
