Put the Creative Economy to work

A strong solution to the ills of our current economic disaster, and the way to assist the 9.7% of residents now out of work, is to get creative. I’m urging creative leaders to step up, to match themselves with producers, with engineers, with do-ers to get this economy turned around. The Creatives have the unique, robust, and alternative experiences that allow genuine and passionate problem solving, put us to work!

Here’s what we need to do:

  1. We need an online “Solutions” network. Maybe we could use LinkedIn, maybe Ning; willing creatives can volunteer to offer solutions to those in need. People need a venue to post their issues, and have creative solutions provided to them. Maybe Mahalo can chip in some crowdsource technology?
  2. We need fed, state or local tax-rebate/incentive support. If we can’t gain revenues from our solutions, what if I could select a value for my creative solution and write it off against my taxes?
  3. We need the public libraries to be involved. It’s the closest thing we have to a public workspace, with desks, resources, and Internet access. If we want to get the economy moving we’re going to need all the free space we can get for both online and offline networking.

Less than 17 percent of our GDP comes from manufacturing, once the backbone of our economy. We need to create and build the new long-term structures that can support the well being of a nation. The productivity is here, its on “pause.” Let’s free it up and get out of this mess!
